Her present jewelry unites her love of vibrant color and the organic nature of anodized aluminum. The demands she places on herself to create quality work are seen in her attention to detail. What informs her style is a desire to create beauty in this world, tangible wearable beauty, for others to touch, to hold, and to wear. Elegance and whimsy are two qualities she aims to convey in her creations – lightness and fun, beauty and richness.

No Mans Land
With more than fifteen years experience as a fashion and accessories designer, I gently transitioned to jewelry design after a particularly enchanting visit to one of the many Pacific Northwest forests. Endlessly inspired by the natural world, my focus is on utilizing sustainable materials in unique and unconventional ways. From a sliver of hardwood to a measure of antique textile, each material speaks to me and dictates the manner in which I design. As an artist with a background in anthropology, it is my intention to honor global traditions of craft and innovation.
Each of my pieces bears the marks of nature, and of the artist, and is inherently one of a kind. It is this unique quality that sets No Man’s Land Artifacts apart from the mass produced jewelry market, and gives each piece a special distinction.
In May 2015, I decided to turn my crafting into a business and The Purple Chickadee was born.
The Purple Chickadee specializes in handmade leather and wooden goods as well as a few other accessories.

Native Vermonter Carrie Root is a life-long artist, always creating new works with various mediums including clay, fiber, paint, and found objects. After 16+ years as a lead merchandiser and buyer for several catalog companies, Carrie left the corporate world and started to focus on her childhood dream of being a professional artist. Looking for something new and inspiring to rekindle her passions, she remembered the stained glass window she made in a studio class over 20 years ago.
